Aveyond 2 Ean's quest-Reflections after playing the game

Postby over_cloud9 » Mon Dec 07, 2009 6:45 am

:wel: Welcome to the reviews of Aveyond 2 Ean's quest!I came across Aveyond 2 while I was browsing for some adventure based game back then.Later I discovered its first part-Aveyond 1.Well Aveyond 2 was quite polished compared to its first part and I really liked the story of Iya and Ean.My sister became a fan of Ava one eye! What I really like about Aveyond games are the goodies and the fact that there aren’t any random encounters where the players are forced to fight even if they are in a hurry.Though I was a little let down by the fact of some minor leveling up before confronting the boss yet the gameplay was quite interesting. The best part was that I had the freedom to travel all over the world map(something not available in Lord of Twilight) and explore to find new items or encounter newer types of enemy. The graphics and music was much better than its predecessor, though some were the default RPG maker sound(for example the battle system).Game control was good and is being constantly improved in the later Aveyond series. The ‘transfiguring’ capability of Ean made it all the more interesting. And ofcourse for all die hard romantics, there’s a elaborate marraige ceremony at the end between the main characters(of couse if you choose to end this way).Overall I would give a nine on ten rating for this game.

My rating: *****

This was my very first ever RPG - the one that got me hooked! So it is probably still my favourite. Not just because it holds a special place in my heart, but also because it is simply very, very good!

For me, the Aveyond series ticks all the boxes. They're just so well conceived and developed. The maps are big enough to get lost in first time around, but simple enough to memorise after you've had to go through a couple of times. Solving the quests is tricky enough to make you really have to think, but as long as you pay close attention to everything you're told you should be able to solve everything without guesswork. As enemies respawn each time you leave a map, you can do as much fighting as you like to level up, but as they're all clearly visible and don't move too fast, you can pretty much always avoid them if you're not in the mood for fighting.

If there's one minor criticism I have it's that the first time you go through a new map the monsters often are just a little too hard too fight. However, this really is only a minor criticism, as I have learned that you need to find the time and some good places to level up by fighting the same monsters over and over. Also, as you can mostly outrun the monsters, you can generally make a mad dash for the next town where you will always be able to buy better equipment to help you fight the baddies.

I love Aveyond. Love love love it!

This is my third Aveyond game (because I consider Ahriman's Quest part of the series). During the time that I had played this game, admittedly its features were better than AV1. The controls were more convenient compared to that of AV1, but AV1 has been updated numerous times over the months/years and it just got better.

This game had the heavy Aveyond feel to it but it didn't impress me as much as AV1 or the other Aveyond games. The characters didn't really "reach" out to me.

The story was good, the music is the best as always, the tilesets are great, the sprites are okay but the face graphics weren't high on my ratings. I had expected something like AV1 (and not something generated from a downloaded facemaker). I loved the new cursor system it had as well as the new implemented goodie caves. XD

One of my constant problems with the Aveyond (RMXP) series is that the battle is slow (unlike LF). The other isn't really a problem but the game is a bit straight forward or easy in the quest area and I like games where there's a challenge in not only fighting monsters but also in solving quests.

However, the story was good but this Aveyond game easily bored me. I'm not really sure why, but it did. It's the only Aveyond game I haven't tried re-playing as much. But I will say it's still worth playing, it's not all that bad.
